Khao Lak on the move

Towards the end of the 2011/12 High Season, there were four new major developments in an advanced state of completion, the Sentido Gracelands Resort (268) on the northern end of Bang Sak Beach, the Mai Khao Lak (200) on the northern end of Pak Weeb Beach, the Sands by Katathani Resort (316) on Nang Thong Beach and the Sensimar Resort (140) on Sunset Beach. No-one would deny the importance of additional investment in Khao Lak but these new resorts plus others like the Monochrome and Blue Lagoon Resorts would add over an additional 1000 bed spaces when due to the previous world-wide recession and continuing economic difficulties in Europe many thought the existing capacity was more than sufficient.

Dear Readers

By now, we are in the middle of the high season, which was awaited by all and which developed considerably better than the previous one. The great weather, beautiful beaches, emerald sea, tasty food and of course the hospitality of the people attracts more and more guests. The newly opened hotels and the increase in the number of hotel beds shows that Khaolak develops to be the most interesting tourist destination in Thailand.

This edition is dedicated to the local food culture. For many guests the Thai cuisine is one of the reasons to choose Thailand as a holiday destination over other countries. What Khaolak has to offer concerning food in particular, can be read in our cover story.

Our recipe of the month is Som Tam, a typical dish from the Northeast of Thailand, which has spread in many variations across the whole of Thailand and brings foreign guests to sweat. Then we present you a restaurant that has opened for 3 years in Soi Bangniang and merges German with Thai cuisine.

To people of Thailand, December is considered to be the most important month as we celebrate the birth of our King, the longest reigning Monarch in the world. After several years of hard works to progress his nation, KL Magazine team wishes H.M.K. Bhumibol Adulyadej all the best for his upcoming 85th birthday on. December 5th or a Father’s day of Thailand as he is considered as the father of all Thai people.

This month we introduce you to the underwater world of the wreck diving; the mysterious, intrigue and breathtaking of deep Andaman. The beautiful experience you should not miss if you’re in love with diving. We also take you to the jungle of evergreen forest in Khao Sok National Park. Only one hour-drive from Khaolak, Khao sok offers activities like jungle hiking, bamboo rafting, elephant trekking, canoeing and the amazing inner tubing along Khao Sok river.

KL Magazine 3rd Issue

Dear Readers,
Well, the new High Season is here! As usual it has been eagerly awaited by local   businesses but as usual they hope it will bring more visitors than previous years. There will undoubtedly be a large number of returners, visitors of many nationalities who need no convincing of Khao Lak’s wonderful appeal to them. However, the real hope is that there will be an increase in the number of new visitors and more will return in future years. Obviously some people already think that is going to happen with a huge investment in large new resorts that will open during this High Season to add to the existing great range of accommodation that Khao Lak offers for all tastes and budgets. KL Magazine will continue to do its best to play a part in getting more visitors to come to Khao Lak.
